10 tips to attract new traffic to your website

Ask any business owner what they’d most like from their website and chances are, the answer will be “more visitors”. But how can businesses attract more traffic to their website?

Here are our 10 tips which have been proven to attract more traffic to our clients’ websites …

  1. Optimise, optimise, optimise

We can’t stress the importance of optimisation (SEO) enough. Optimising your content for search engines is a highly valuable and worthwhile practice which will help increase traffic to your website. Include relevant internal and external links to high-quality content, include keywords and make the most of the image alt-text to boost organic traffic to your website.

  1. Think long-tail keywords

An increasing number of consumers are using long-tail keywords when using search engines as it returns content which is more specific to the needs of the user. For example, instead of typing ‘headphones’ into Google, a consumer may type ‘in ear headphones wireless’ or ‘in ear headphones with mic’. If you’re not targeting long-tail keywords, you could be missing out on quality traffic!

  1. Be responsive

More people than ever before are using mobile devices to access the internet. These mobile devices have a whole range of screen sizes making it vital that your website is responsive - automatically resizing to suit the individual device. There’s nothing more annoying than visiting a website only to find that you have to pinch and scroll your way around the site to find the information you want. Ensure your website is accessible and can be viewed and navigated through comfortably across a range of devices.

  1. Speed things up

How many times have you clicked the back button because a website is taking too long to load? By reducing the file size of large images or adjusting the page structure, you can cut the load time of your website. In a world where we want information in an instant, the quicker your website loads, the better.

  1. Create great content

It’s all well and good getting people to visit your site but, if they’re not impressed by the content that they find, they will just go elsewhere and this will have a negative impact on your SEO. By producing relevant, helpful content not only can you maintain a user’s interest, but it also encourages them to return to your site in the future.

  1. Post more often

High-quality content should be the foundation on which your website is built so it’s important to be consistent and update content regularly to keep it fresh. If you post content which educates and entertains your audience they will keep on coming back for more - they’ll even share your content with their friends if they think it will be of use to them. However, it’s important not to post for the sake of it. Everything you write for your website should be there to give advice and help your audience solve their problems.

  1. Connect your platforms

Ensure that any social media profiles associated with your brand are complete. Use your logo in your profile image and design relevant cover images which show your brand in the best light. When writing your social biographies use keywords which are relevant to your brand and remember to include links to your website.

  1. Share your content

You can’t expect a dramatic increase in website traffic if no one knows that your website exists so it’s important that you share your content across your social media channels. You could also get involved in groups on Facebook and LinkedIn to increase the visibility and reputation of your brand - just remember to check the rules of these groups first. Distributing your content on industry or trade websites can also be a great way to get your brand in the limelight and direct additional traffic to your site.

  1. Realise the power of email

Email is far from dead. Research predicts that, by the end of 2019, an average of 126 emails will be sent and received per business user per day. Email then is a powerful tool which allows you to get your marketing messages directly into the inboxes of your target audience. Build an email list and send targeted, personalised emails to promote your content - just be careful not to bombard people with messages and don’t forget to include an ‘opt out’ or ‘unsubscribe’ link for those who no longer want to receive your emails.

  1. Check your analytics

Tools like Google Analytics are invaluable sources of data giving you essential information on everything from the number of people visiting your website to the most popular pages and visitor demographics. You should check your analytics data on a regular basis and use the information gained from these checks to inform your promotional and content strategies going forward. Pay attention to the posts and pages that are proving to be the most popular so that you can continue to cater for the needs of your audience.
