The r//eview with Gill Burgess

Here at r//evolution, we’re proud to have a track record of successful delivery across public, private and third sector organisations. We’ve won several awards for the work we have completed for our clients and continue to provide bespoke marketing services that drive business success. But none of that would have been possible without Managing Director Gill Burgess.

r//evolution is Gill’s baby, launched in her spare bedroom back in 2003, Gill has worked hard to build an innovative creative marketing agency with carefully crafted in-house expertise in every area of our business including Digital, Communications, Design and Online Marketing.

We sat down with Gill to find out more about the woman behind r//evolution...

So Gill, what’s your background?

Before setting  up r//evolution I was Director of Client Services at Workhouse Marketing. Before that I was responsible for marketing at the largest FE College in the UK and I started my career with The Sports Council.

Tell us a little bit about what  your day-to-day job involves…

Every day is different - which is what I love about it.  But typically on a daily basis I make sure that our work is being delivered and that we continue to keep our clients happy, keeping an eye on finance and planning for r//evolution’s continued growth.

What’s your favourite work day routine?

An early swim at Matfen Hall, meetings with clients, catching up with business contacts I can learn from and working on our exciting growth plans.

What is your favourite thing about r//evolution?

The team and our clients! I’m so proud of the team and the work they do for our clients.  And I love spending time with our customers, fInding out how their business works and how marketing can help them achieve their goals.

Which social media platform could you not live without?

Linkedin - it’s such a great platform and a real asset to any business

Where do you get your news?

Through Apps mainly - The Guardian and The Times alongside The Journal

What would you do if you didn’t work in marketing?

Hum - I’m not sure - perhaps something completely different.  Helping young people who haven’t had a great start in life to get themselves into a job they enjoy so they can have some stability?

Who would play you in a film about your life?

Wow - NO idea! (Side note - the team at r//evolution voted and we’d say Michelle Pfeiffer)

What’s your favourite thing about the North East?

The space - walking on the beach with the family and the dogs (Two very energetic black labradors!)

Do you have a favorite restaurant / place to dine in the region?

I love fresh crab sandwiches at The Ship Inn at Lower Newton after a walk on the beach.  Simple pleasures - you can’t beat them!

If you were stranded on a desert island and could only take three things, what would you take?

A sharp knife, a copy of The Success Principles by Jack Canfield and a photo of my family.

Finally, what is your claim to fame?

Meeting Peter Jones at No. 11 Downing Street!

Thanks Gill!
